Texas Invests $50 Million in Ibogaine Research, Advocates Still Eye Tri-State

June 18, 2025

Texas has launched the largest publicly funded research initiative focused on ibogaine, committing $50 million to study the plant-derived compound as a potential treatment for addiction. The effort aims to support clinical research examining ibogaine’s safety and effectiveness as scientists continue exploring new approaches to addressing substance use disorders.

Bryan Hubbard, Executive Director of the American Ibogaine Initiative, played a key role in advocating for the Texas program after earlier attempts to secure research funding in other states. In interviews surrounding the announcement, Hubbard emphasized the importance of public education about ibogaine and noted that interest in studying the compound is growing in additional states considering future research initiatives.
